Of Trees, Snow, and Monsters

The snow has found us finally, and our home is cozy and complete with candy canes. Fall in Tahoe has been satisfying. October was an Indian summer month, warm enough to go on some spectacularly lonely autumn hikes, no one else braving the back country but us. We have continued to have many old friends make cameo appearances at our home, including a huge weekend blow-out for Deva's 24th birthday; eight of us crammed in a suite at the Peppermill casino in Reno, holding it down with a mix of creative and creepy costumes. Last weekend's blizzard was a welcome development. Snow gear came blasting out of the closet and the fire place finally got roaring. We are hosting Thanksgiving here, but the true show-stopper will be the dual Stater-Porten family Christmas taking place. Until then I am enjoying being present for the day-to-day around here. We are staking a place in this small town and it feels good to be still; semi-permanent somewhere so spectacularly beautiful.
