Ladies and gentlemen,
Welcome to our esteemed Blog. For the both of us, this will be our first time blogging (well, aside from Adam, who had a shoddy little attempt at a blog last year), so be kind, curious, and patient. We will try to amuse and inform you, and if we somehow manage to not do either, well, live with it. Check it out.
ahhh. There is sweat on my brow and free coffee (complete with cream for "PUKEY PORTEN" - digression, by Adam - Friday night we hit the town. In our hostel, pre-clubbing, we downed a sizeable amount of the local liquer - called Seco, made from sugar cane - with a motley crew of Swedes, Germans, Australians, and more. We made it to a club, did some dancing, and foundn our way home later in the evening. The next morning, Mariya proceeded to throw up a whopping SEVEN times. Count it. SEVEN. She maintains that it was some sort of bug or disease of sorts that made its way into her body and threw up her insides.) by my side. Our hostel, Luna's Castle is in the heart of Casco Veijo, Panama City's older, more colorful, more historical and more dilapteded part of town. It is perfect. The crowd here is very hip, all young travellers, except for the older American ex-pat who is chugging beer at ten in the morning and mumbling to himself about the best route to take through the jungle. We have made friends with a couple from Ashland and have been squeezing into cabs on various adventures around the city. Tomorrow we plan to head out of the city and get the real adventure under way. Because Panama City is so large and so cosmopolitan, it has been hard to gauge what the more rural parts of the trip will be like. But I think we are ready for whatever we may encounter. As a travel team we are complimenting eachother very nicely.
Today we're off to a nacional park that is placed somewhere along the canal. Apparently it's one of the premier bird-watching sites in the world. Good thing we forgot our binoculars....
